About the area
The Costa Tropical in southern Spain is made up of agricultural areas, punctuated by traditional towns and villages and backed by the Sierra Nevada mountains. It’s just over an hour’s drive east along the coast from Malaga airport, to which there a loads of direct flights from the UK. Salobreña is made up of two parts. There’s the Old Town which sits on the top of a rocky hillside with whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading up to a 10th Century Moorish castle. Then there’s the new town which stretches from the foot of the old right down to the pebbly beaches. There are five in Salobreña to be exact, two of the main ones are divided by the famous rock called El Penon. With mild temperatures all year round, both sunbathing and skiing right on hand, lovely restaurants and a fantastic sense of authentic Spanish culture it’s easy to see how this has become popular with so many visitors.
