Ben Hillman jets off to southern Spain to help Paula & Phil from South Wales. The couple have travelled all over the world in the past 22 years, but the one place they keep returning to is Spain. Now with Phil close to retirement, they can’t wait to buy their very own holiday home by the sea around La Duquesa on Spain’s Costa del Sol. They have a budget of £200,000 and Ben has 5 great options but will they fall in love with any enough to put in an offer?
About the area
Manilva is the farthest west municipality in the province of Malaga and limits with the Cadiz province. With a population of around 15.000 (2018), the largest town it’s not Manilva (the original town up the hill) but San Luis de Sabinillas on the coast where around 8.500 people live permanently. The municipality has an area of 35,5m2 and it’s located 60 miles away from Malaga city, the capital of the province.
The area extends from the hills to the coast giving the area the so characteristic landscape of the Malaga province, with its grey sand beaches and the miles of coast that extend along the hills. The area is well appreciated for being so near Gibraltar, only 35 miles away, being the closest area of the Malaga province and therefore of the Costa del sol. Gibraltar can be seen from many sites, especially if you are up the hills, and this is another reason why many choose to holiday or have their homes here.
The closest city is Estepona, located less than 8miles away, with buses connecting the city with the towns of La Duquesa and San Luis de Sabinillas. It takes only 15minutes by car to get to Estepona and around 20minutes to get there by bus. This makes the quiet coastal towns of Manilva a perfect location for many people who work in Estepona.
