Property for Sale in Lanzarote

Where to find a property for sale in Lanzarote
It might have once enjoyed a reputation for cheap package holidays but Lanzarote has always had its fans and recently become fashionable amongst East London hipsters for its family-friendly vibe.
The eastern-most Canary Island has also been going increasingly upmarket. Would it suit you? The 37-mile long island is worth a trip. Like the other main Canary islands, it’s now easy to reach, is a great option for affordable winter sun and it’s a fabulous location to just disconnect from the realities of daily life.
It hardly gets any rain and do you fancy seven hours of sunshine in February - with an average temperature a balmy 20 degrees?
If so, you might not mind the fact it looks as barren as the moon. Its brown post-volcanic hills stretch for miles punctuated by rich succulents and cacti and then there are the distinctive white, boxlike houses that look very similar due to the town planning policy of a man called Cesar Manrique.
The Arrecife born architect made sure that the island was not spoilt by high-rise hotels in the 1960s and 1970s. Homes were built to sympathise with the environment and in natural colours.
But you can get all kinds of apartments in the resorts alongside amazing villas so there’s now a great choice. The biggest resorts are Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise, but Manrique’s birthplace, the capital Arrecife, is also popular. In between, there are vineyards, surfing beaches, rustic boutique hotels, wonderful villages.
Playa Blanca, the most southern resort, is the newest and 45 minutes from the airport. The former fishing village has got a large yacht marina, a 9km long bay, plenty of cafes and restaurants but is a bit calmer than the other resorts mentioned above. Expect to pay from around €250,000 €300,000 for a villa with a pool.
In the lively main tourist town of Puerto del Carmen you’ll find a bigger selection of apartments for sale from €200,000 - whilst the nearby Tias is a traditional and historic town with its own expat population.
Seek a quieter life? Look to the villages or rustic fincas - interest has been growing in the north - check out Arrieta with its Blue Flag beach and excellent fish restaurants. Lanzarote has come a long way since its “Lanzagrotty” days so it’s worth a trip if you haven’t been for a while and fancy a Canarian bolt hole.
