Property for Sale in Duquesa

Where to find a Duquesa property for sale
Haven’t heard of La Duquesa? Well it’s because this superb marina on the western Costa del Sol has been rather overshadowed by glitzier neighbours - Sotogrande on one side, Puerto Banus on the other.
But this area of Manilva, close to the historic coastal town of Sabinillas, really is worth a visit, and still offers good value (for now). It’s centred around La Duquesa marina - or Puerto Duquesa - an impressive 328-berth port, around which there are bars, restaurants, nice apartments, but it’s also the sort of place where the local fishing boats still ply their trade, it’s not just a parade of gin palaces.
The east side (Muelle de Levante) offers a number of cafe bars overlooking the marina catching the afternoon sun thus a great place to watch the boats come and go. On summer evenings there’s a street market with handicrafts and clothes near the marina.
La Duquesa is also very well located just 30 minutes from Gibraltar, 45 minutes from Malaga, so perfect for speedy weekend breaks and a lot less busy than the spots around Marbella - although that’s only half an hour away if you want a big of party action or designer shopping.
It might not have the fashionable beach club scene but it’s got refreshingly quieter beaches, the same mountain backdrop, the same fabulous climate, and an arguably better quality of life. There is also a beautiful golf course at La Duquesa Golf and Country Club - designed by Robert Trent Jones - and a number of choices nearby, including the Ryder Cup venue Valderrama at Sotogrande.
There are also waterparks close by, good schools for expat families, supermarkets, medical centres - the high level of infrastructure you’d expect on the Costa del Sol.
So what can you buy there? You can get a small apartment from around €100,000 - even a tiny one in the port itself for that - but prices have been on the move upwards in the past couple of years, but are still below the 2007 market peak. At the time of writing a two-bedroom apartment with a huge terrace sold for €250,000, just over asking price with an agent.
In wider Manilva there were an awful lot of cookie-cutter apartment blocks built during the boom years, so look at the location carefully before you take a trip to view a property.
La Duquesa is a bit of a hidden gem, if you can excuse the cliche, although it already has a good following of boating and golfing fans, as well as those that love the attractions of the Costa del Sol but don’t want to be in the thick of it.
