Where to find property in Sucina

Inland of San Pedro del Pinatar and the Mar Menor is the tiny village of Sucina, surrounded by olive, lemon and almond orchards, fields of melons, wheat, artichokes and beans, lemons, but also golf courses and resorts.

It is very much a charming mixture of old (the beautiful gold and rose-pink church and its palm-lined square are still at the heart of the village) and the new (modern built houses, and the British expat influence of the cafes that advertise fish and chips).

That said, the expats are well integrated and it’s got a very different vibe from the coastal resorts 15 minutes’ drive away. It is popular for its proximity to the nearby golf courses of La Peraleja and Hacienda Riquelme, and it is only 30 minutes from Murcia International Airport.

Expect to get more for your money if  you buy a resale property - you can get a two-bedroom apartment for around €65,000 if you are lucky, or a three- bedroom villa for €140,000 on one of the urbanisations around the village - or on La Peraleja there is a good choice of new-build options, with four-bedroom villas for around €280,000.

If you fancy the bright lights of Torrevieja you can head north, or you can head south to many of the Blue Flag beaches within a 30-minute drive, or to the secluded little coves west of the historic town of Cartagena.

If you are a golfer you have two courses nearby - La Peraleja (with a good a la carte restaurant) or Hacienda Riquelme - and this village doesn’t turn into a ghost town in the winter, when temperatures are a spring-like 16 degrees and the Mar Menor even stays warm all year round for those who love water sports.

Sucina is a relaxed and traditional little town with just enough of an expat flavour to suit some buyers who don’t want the lively resorts. If you don’t want the beach on tap, it’s perfectly located.
