Fossacesia is in central eastern Italy on the Adriatic coast. Fossacesia is an Italian municipality of 6,255 inhabitants in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo, a popular seaside resort on the Costa dei Trabocchi. Since 2004 it has boasted the Blue Flag Beaches. With the recovery in the new millennium of the ancient machines used for fishing, the so-called "Trabocchi", and the enhancement of the stretch of coastline that takes its name from them, Fossacesia has further increased its notoriety both at a regional and national level.
The coast of Fossacesia extends to the hamlet of Fossacesia Marina and is characterized, for the most part, by white pebble beaches. In the southernmost part, near the mouth of the Sangro River, the coast becomes lower and you can also find small sandy beaches.
The village of Fossacesia arose in the 9th century following colonisation by the Benedictine monks. Just outside the village, on a panoramic hill, the imposing Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere dominates the views with its beauty.
There is a new cycle and walking path constructed along the Trabocchi Coast on the old railway line, highlighting the beautiful Adriatic coastline.
