Ibiza rental returns on the up

Great news for owners renting out their properties in Ibiza - holiday rentals in the White Isle are more popular than ever.

Average occupancy rates on the island rose dramatically over 2013, while agents Lucas Fox reported double the amount of enquiries for their Ibiza rental villas compared to the same period last year.

The positive news reflects optimism in Spain's tourism market in general, following news that the country is back to third in the world tourism rankings.

Indeed, the Balearics attracted over 15 per cent of the Spain's 60 million visitors during 2013.

Almost 2.5 million tourists visited Ibiza during the last 12 months, with nearly half of them choosing to stay in villas or apartments.

That figure is expected to rise in 2014, with more holidaymakers looking for 'home from home' luxuries and personal touches during their visit.

Many stay in private holiday homes rented out professionally - the second home market has been booming in Ibiza.

In anticipation of the surge in tourism demand, Lucas Fox has teamed up with Stay Ibiza, a concierge service. Stuart Glens of Stay Ibiza reports:

"Ibiza has always attracted the rich and famous but now the VIP market is definitely growing significantly. The clubs play a huge part in this attraction and it seems that the VIP areas grow every year to accommodate the rising numbers.

"We are already seeing enquiries for summer rentals coming in thick and fast as January and February are traditionally the most popular months for booking summer holidays. Our advice is to book with us early so you get the best pick of villas in time for your visits in 2014."

The island's booming rental market can be attributed to different factors.

So far Ibiza (unlike Mallorca) hasn't taken measures to restrict holiday rentals, which is why its rental market is doing so well.

Meanwhile, the islands' reputation as a clubbing mecca - and string of high profile guests - continues to pull in the visitors.

Singers James Blunt and Madonna have both owned homes on the island, while Kate Moss, Jade Jagger and many others are also big fans.
