What?
Montenegro is a tiny country less than two thirds the size of Wales with a population of just 625,000. The country is only seven years old having gained independence from Serbia in 2006.
Where?
It is situated on the Adriatic Coast between Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania. The scenery is incredibly varied and within two and half hours you can drive from the beach on the south coast to a ski resort in the north.
If looking for property to buy there is a golden triangle between Budva, Kotor and Porto Montenegro where most new developments are being built due to their proximity to the bay, the airport and amenities (pictured). It is here that plans have just been announced for the country's first 18 hole golf course and the luxury villa development Sea Breeze is situated (see below).
When?
Like most of the Mediterranean region, Montenegro's coast enjoys balmy summers and mild winters. The warmest months are July and August, when the temperature ranges from 19°C to 29°C (average lowest to average highest) and the sea temperature is 25°C to 28°C. The spring and autumn time is a fabulous time for hiking and cycling in the mountains.
How?
Montengro Airlines fly direct twice a week to Tivat on the coast between May and October and once a week to the capital, Podgorica in a journey time of just 2.5 hours. British Airways, easyJet, Flybe, Jet2, Monarch and Thomson operate flights to Croatia's Dubrovnik airport giving passengers a daily flight choice. This is about 1 hours 15 mins by car to Montenegro from here.
Who?
Famous people that have holidayed in Montenegro recently include Emile Sande who got married there late last year, Nat Rothschild celebrated his 40th birthday there and Tom Cruise, Tina Turner, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are all recent visitors.
