Tenerife welcomes Brit hordes

Tenerife has welcomed over 1.5 million British tourists this year and is close to matching its record-breaking 2005 tourist numbers.

The uplifting figures represent a 12% increase in people from the UK, with cruise passengers and those taking advantage of all inclusive hotels contributing most. British guests now make up 31% of the visitors to Tenerife which is the most popular of the Canary Islands, attracting 45% of total British arrivals to the islands.

And the island is keen to attract even more visitors next year, with new initiatives for 2012 set to include the introduction of five volcano tours around the island, and a new focus on gastronomy. It is hoped that these measures will appear to younger tourists who are increasingly visiting the island. The average age of visitors is gradually falling due to the number of young couples visiting.

Commenting on the figures, Premier Properties Tenerife said that they were 'absolutely delighted' that the island was proving popular with visitors.

The company has one-bedroom apartments starting from just €60,000 and three bedroom townhouses from €158,000. It also offers businesses for sale. For more information about the company's properties visit their website at www.premierpropertiestenerife.com
