A growing number of New Zealand homeowners are turning to property stylists to jazz up their homes and help secure a sale, due to tougher New Zealand property market conditions.
More housing design specialists are being appointed to replace existing furniture and household goods with fashionable items, in an attempt to add thousands of pounds to a property's value and help speed up a property sale.
Homebase director Anthea Baker-Shreeve told the press that her company had noticed a surge of business recently.
“We have been flat out busy,” she said. “People are realising they need to market their homes better. In the current market you can't just throw the house on the market and expect it to sell quickly.”
Baker-Shreeve said that making a few simple changes to a home could help achieve a higher sale price and effect a faster sale.
She added: “I do know we have picked up houses that have been sitting on the market for three months without a sale, staged them [gave them a makeover], and sold them within a week.”
The New Zealand property market has slowed since the beginning of the year and prices have fallen across most parts of the country due to a lack of demand.
