This charming beach town offers a plethora of restaurants of various cuisines, many local shops selling souvenirs, local crafts, clothing, and artisanal products. The local market is a great place to shop for fresh produce and regional specialties. Yearly, the town hosts the Nazaré Tow Surfing Challenge, one of the most prestigious big wave surfing competitions in the world. The competition typically attracts elite surfers from around the world, willing to push the boundaries of the sport. The big wave surfing season is usually between October and March, when the Atlantic Ocean produces swells of extraordinary magnitude.

São Martinho is one of the most popular towns and beaches on the Silver Coast. The town itself surrounds the shell shaped bay which in itself provides a safe area for families to enjoy days on the beach with safe swimming. The beach stretches all the way around to the nearby village of Salir do Porto. In São Martinho do Porto there are numerous restaurants and cafes that cater to many different palates.
