Caldas da Rainha is a further 10 minutes drive and is now the major town of the area of Oeste with everything you would expect like, commerce, schools, museums, library, cultural centre and of course restaurants and bars which are now varied in gastronomy tastes and cultures.
Caldas as it is called is famous for the founding of a hospital by Queen Leonor on the site of hot springs. The “Thermal “hospital still exists. Caldas is recognised as a UNESCO creative city and has 9 museums covering many subjects.
Beaches
Within easy reach of Usseira you have directly west, the surf beaches of Baleal, Ferrel and Peniche with Supertubos beach hosting world surf events.
Slightly north of ther you have Bom Successo - This area boasts not only a beautiful beach area but a lagoon and 4 championship golf courses.
Across from Bom Successo is Foz do Arelho. Having many surf schools, a sailing school and drop dead views of the coast line and lagoon. The marginal boasts many restaurants.
Further north again you come to the twin area of Salir do Porto and São Martinho do Porto. Linked by a beautiful coastal boardwalk Salir is the smaller town with a handful of restaurants, cafes and a mini market - there is a summer lido complex and the famous dunes, a stunning and very large sand dune right at the end of the bay.
The larger town of São Martinho has everything for day to day living with banks, a vet, many restaurants,shops and a supermarket also Transport links to Caldas and beyond.
Travelling further afield
Lisbon from Usseira - 50 minutes by car or 1 hour by bus from either Obidos or Bombarral - 10 minutes by car.
