Location
The property is located only 5 minutes from the historic main town of Alcobaça by car. Alcobaça is a lovely town that is big enough to provide you with everything you need but still small enough to be personal. There are supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, banks, health centres, dentists, a hospital, a beautiful park and all other amenities you would expect from a mid-sized town.
Alcobaça is world famous for its fabulous monastery which is a must-see. It is surrounded by streets filled with wonderful old buildings in a variety of architectural designs. There are many cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy the local delicacies. Opposite the monastery is a wide pedestrian area where you can sit and enjoy a wonderful smooth coffee or a glass of chilled vinho while relaxing and watching as the world meanders around you.
There is a wonderful weekly fruit and vegetable market in Alcobaca where you can buy fresh local produce as well as fresh baked bread, cheeses, pulses, beans, nuts, dried fruit, beautiful and colourful fresh flowers, baskets and many other local artisan products.
A short drive away are the beautiful beaches at Nazaré or São Martinho do Porto; both towns have a healthy central shopping area that has a variety of shops, cafés, and restaurants.
The famous Nazaré beach is about 15 minutes from the property. Nazaré has stunning beaches, a very rich maritime heritage, and famous world-class surfing waves. This charming beach town offers a plethora of restaurants of various cuisines, many local shops selling souvenirs, local crafts, clothing, and artisanal products. The local market is a great place to shop for fresh produce and regional specialties. Yearly, the town hosts the Nazaré Tow Surfing Challenge, one of the most prestigious big wave surfing competitions in the world. The competition typically attracts elite surfers from around the world, willing to push the boundaries of the sport. The big wave surfing season is usually between October and March, when the Atlantic Ocean produces swells of extraordinary magnitude.
São Martinho do Porto (20 minute drive) is one of the most popular towns and beaches on the Silver Coast. The town itself surrounds the shell shaped bay which in itself provides a safe area for families to enjoy days on the beach with safe swimming. The beach stretches all the way around to the nearby village of Salir do Porto. In São Martinho do Porto there are numerous restaurants and cafes that cater to many different palates. In addition there is a pharmacy, supermarkets, several mini-markets, butchers, bakeries, lovely pastry shops, gift and souvenir shops as well as clothing shops and shops with wonderful products for the home and garden. A promenade and cycle track stretches around the whole bay with the cycle track connecting to the Estrada Atlântica where you can cycle for miles. There are also fabulous walks that surround this entire area.
Lisbon and Lisbon Airport are just over an hour away.
