The Visitation de Sainte Marie convent in Saint-Céré was built in the early 18th century, between 1710 and 1714 to be precise. These dates are corroborated by several local and historical sources.
The convent was occupied by the Order of the Visitation of Saint Mary from 1847 to 1978, often referred to as the Visitandines. This religious order was founded by Saint François de Sales and Saint Jeanne de Chantal in 1610. The convent is embellished with arcades forming a magnificent cloister, and the slate roof rests on a framework in excellent condition.
