In the department of Calvados, only 15 minutes away from Clécy, a 17th-century fortified manor house and its 14-hectare fiefdom. Outside of the village, perched up in the hills, the view is completely unobstructed towards the Orne River Valley, flowing downstream all the way to the slopes of the Pays d'Auge. Once the fiefdom and barony of the Malfilâtre lords, the estate is accessible via a small 450-metre no-through road, lined with fields and woods, before arriving at a wooden gate, which opens onto the property. A tree-lined driveway then leads to the garden where still more medieval vestiges await, including a 13th-century fortified arkose stone wall, built along the Orne River, as well as a 15th-century defensive turret.
In the centre of the property, the ancient fortified manor house was refurbished in the 17th century to soften its original military aspect and turn it into a vacation home. Crowned with a hipped roof in 'Pont-à-Mousson' slate, the two-story home was built out of pink-veined blue schist.
The pointed schist masonry, flecked with silvery grey and ochre tones, is cadenced with arched windows, framed with limestone ashlar and decorated with wrought-iron guardrails. Located approximately 20 metres past the dwelling, a 17th-century house flanked by a watchtower were built overlooking the meandering Orne River. A garage abuts the northern side of the home.
