The medieval town of Vouvant is 8km away where there is a good selection of shops, restaurants and an excellent weekly market. Vouvant is officially classified by the French government as one of the most beautiful villages in France.??Many outdoor sports are available locally including tennis, golf, horse riding, boating, walking, kayaking, cycling and paragliding. Thanks to the effects of the Gulf Stream, the region enjoys the highest number of sunshine hours on the Atlantic coast and that, coupled with its glorious sandy beaches, makes it the perfect holiday destination.
Other towns and villages in the area that are worth exploring include Mervent, Fontenay-le-Comte, Coulonges-sur-l'Autize, La Chataigneraie and L'Absie. The coast is just over an hour away, and the wonderful city of La Rochelle is also easy to reach, and a great destination for a day out and a good seafood lunch! There is also the airport at La Rochelle and the ferry port at St Malo is just a 3.5hr drive.
