This uses steam which comes from the natural reservoirs of hot water below the earth's surface, as a perfect form of sustainable, renewable green energy with zero emission pollution. It is possible to take guided trails to see the steam emerging naturally from the underground on the rocky outcrops in the area.
There are many Tuscan hilltop village scattered in the area. Sasso Pisano nearby is a beautiful, historical village in the region of Castelnuovo Val di Cecina. In the past this castle and the ancient village have been an important part of Tuscan history, and it sits in a dominant position overlooking the valley. There is a restaurant and bar in the village and there are many village festivals such as the Prugnolo mushroom festival, the Sasserino olive oil festival and the festival of San Bartolomeo. A particular feature of the village is the fabulous bathing and health spa powered by the hot springs of the area which has now been restored to provide a centre for well being with hydromassage and there is even a 'putizza' with jets of hot water and mud treatments.
