could you give me advice on how to get a mortgage in italy, we are 59 years old, my husband works in the offshore oil industry as a medic. are we too old?, what deposit would we have to put down etc, any advice on this matter would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you’re 59 and earning, your age shouldn’t be a big problem. It really depends on your earnings – most banks insist on the loan being repaid by the age of 75 therefore the maximum term for you would be 15/16 years. This has implications for your affordability as it will push up your monthly mortgage repayments and hence your debt to income ratio (which the banks use to assess affordability).
At the moment 65-70 per cent LTV can most reasonably expected, although some companies are offering 80 per cent LTV.
    Good luck!

Any comments?
